mtv.com: Thanks to votes from thousands of MTV viewers, Spears netted her third nomination of this year’s VMAs (she’s scored two others in the Best Female and Best Pop Video categories) on Friday (August 15), but she faces some stiff competition for the awards’ most sought-after prize. The Jonas Brothers are also up for Video of the Year, for their “Burnin’ Up” clip, along with Chris Brown’s “Forever,” the Pussycat Dolls’ “When I Grow Up” and, in typical VMA fashion, a relative newcomer. The Ting Tings scored their first VMA nod for “Shut Up and Let Me Go.”

people.com: Joe Jonas celebrated his 19th birthday with a new set of wheels – a motorcycle with a sidecar – given to him by his family.”I’m pumped!” Joe said in an interview Friday in New York with Radio Disney on-air personality Ernie D.

“Don’t worry,” adds his brother, Kevin, 20, “there were lots of helmets given.”

Joe blew out 20 candles, including one for good luck, on a strawberry shortcake birthday cake and his brothers and parents sang “Happy Birthday” to him along with the rest of radio station staff.

billboard.com: The Jonas Brothers are on track to score their first No. 1 album next week on The Billboard 200, as “A Little Bit Longer” (Hollywood) leads Nielsen SoundScan’s Building chart, released this afternoon (Aug. 13).

Unweighted sales of “Longer” through the close of business yesterday (Aug. 12) stood at 201,000. Billboard estimates the nine merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan’s Building chart — Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Circuit City, iTunes, Starbucks, Borders, Target, Anderson Merchandisers and Handleman Co. — comprise about 80% of all U.S. album sales.

Both Hollywood and its distributor, Universal, are projecting that “Longer” could finish the week with a number between 675,000 and 725,000. Based on the percentage of first-day sales that recent albums by Carrie Underwood, Usher, Mariah Carey and Jonas Brothers labelmate Miley Cyrus contributed to their first-week sales, Billboard estimates that “Longer” could surpass 600,000 and might start with as many as 725,000.

Hollywood GM Abbey Konowitch says, “We knew the fan base was as fanatical as it gets, but what was done by the group and us in the past few months, in a way, flies in the face of conventional marketing.” That includes the band having played the bulk of the new album live in concert since last fall and encouraging fans to share YouTube performances of the songs.

usatoday.com: NEW YORK — Hundreds of Jonas Brothers fans mobbed the Apple Store in Soho Tuesday night to watch the trio celebrate new disc A Little Bit Longer by recording an EP for iTunes’ Live From Soho series.

By the time Apple’s website announced the surprise same-day appearance by Kevin, Joe and Nick, a crowd of 100 had already set up camp.

The four Brooklyn pals waiting at the front of the line — Margarita Lungin and Agnes Belka, both 16, and Suzanne Hassan and Priscilla Huang, both 17 — heard word from a Jonas fansite. “We’re in love with Joe — obsessive love,” Margarita says.

The heartthrobs’ arrival was greeted with a chorus of adolescent shrieks. The capacity crowd of 450-plus (and at least that many were turned away) sang along, clapped, jumped up and down and waved their hands through a set that included That’s Just the Way We Roll and Pushin’ Me Away.

During BB Good, Joe leaned out and hollered, “I don’t wanna hurt you, I wanna kiss you.” Screams ensued. Last number of the night: Burnin’ Up.

“If they are nagging and annoying, you’re like, ‘Go away,’ ” Joe, 18, told the audience on MTV’s TRL on Wednesday during Jonas Brothers Fan Week – timed to the Tuesday debut of their album A Little Bit Longer Tuesday).

Added older brother Kevin, 20: “We’re not ever really with people, ’cause we’re always traveling. And you get on the phone and they’re like, ‘My day is awful, blah,’ and you’re like, ‘This is not what I need right now!’ ”

Nick revealed the importance he places upon how a girl treats her family. “They have to be good to their moms,” said the 15-year-old former boyfriend of Miley Cyrus – now currently dating Selena Gomez.

In addition to their upcoming Disney Channel series, the brothers could soon be collaborating with Ben Stiller. “We met him just recently,” Joe told TRL. “We were talking with him about doing a movie.”
